The Limits of Your Attention

I wanted to continue the topic “How to stand out as a tier-3 college student” but before that, I want to talk about “The boundaries of your attention” from HYPER FOCUS book.

Your focus determines your reality

~ Star Wars Episode 1

In our daily life we had a lot of works to do. In every work we need to focus on work to complete it. Doing things simultaneously sounds good. The word “Multi Tasking" also sound aesthetic but, they don't work for too long.

There is a finite limit to how many things we can focus. The limit is smaller than you might think. Realistically we can do Atmost one or two tasks at a the same time.

According to Chris Bailey, “Our environment sends a steady stream of information to our brain every second”. Wait a minute and listen to your mind. Think about sound, memories and other information coming at you in this moment, and you'll realize there is a nearly infinite number of items to which you could direct your focus.

So, prioritizing your tasks and focusing on your most priority tasks can be helpful.

Our brain has a different mechanism,” After focusing on something, we can hold only a small amount of information in our memory”,

This is not only happening to us, It’s happens to every human being. So don’t be depressed. The ability to temporarily store information in our minds is practically a SuperPower.

We had some great ways to remember more information and research about it.

If we need to focus on work without any distractions, We need to follow some rules.

1. Phone

2. Social

3. DND

1. PHONE: Avoid using your phone while doing productive tasks, Phone is the biggest distraction, The one notification from the phone can ruin the entire session.

2. SOCIAL MEDIA: Think about it “What is the most used application in your phone”. Is it that much important to spend too much time in your life? Compare your ongoing tasks with social media, and you’ll get an idea. Social media can be good if you only use it when you are tired of being on a task and need some break but, don’t focus on your work on break times.

3. DND(Do Not Disturb): I don’t want to explain the reason behind putting your phone in DND, Try yourself you’ll get your own explanation.
